Nautical records of the Listers
I visited the National Archives in Kew to see if I could find Merchant Navy records for any of the Listers. No luck with Thomas snr or jnr but I did find Samuel Lister's records on microfilm. I suspect that Thomas jnr didn't qualify as a ships officer.
One thing we do know about Thomas jnr was that he died when he fell into the hold of the SS Wiltshire in Bootle Docks in 1913. A bit of research uncovered that the SS Wiltshire was wrecked in New Zealand nine years later with the crew and passengers (plus a stowaway) being rescued by bosun's chair by a party on the shore. Check Thomas's page on my web site.
Thomas jnr's second son Albert Samuel was also a seaman and died on the D3 submarine in the first world war - after it was bombed by a French airship! So that gives three generations of seafaring Listers but most of the surviving Lister descendants now live in Australia.
